Context
Firework Short Form Video Storytelling App – UI/UX Web Design for Apps That Matter
Firework is the future of social mobile TV. From the moment you wake up to the time you fall asleep, Firework helps you escape the mundane with immersive and interactive videos that are tailored to your unique lifestyle. Using Reveal video© tactics, combining horizontal and vertical video, the firework app lets users twist their photo while a video is playing to reveal unexpected plot twists, surprise endings, and immersive scenes.
Project Goals
FireworkTV needed a creative, responsive, and eye-catching web UI to funnel users to download the FireworkTV app and understand the potential of a groundbreaking feature that captures the imagination and empowers video creators around the world. We at Hummingbirdsday captured the best of modern, simplistic UI design while remaining effective at conveying the true impact of our client’s product. Ultimately, the goal of this project was to drive downloads and inspire curiosity among customers.
Research
Analyses of successful apps such as TikTok, Snapchat, and other social video apps led our UI/UX team to consider a simplistic, yet eye-catching landing page that instantly funnels customers to download the FireworkTV app from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store. Additionally, the team recognized that Firework wasn’t simply trying to convey customers, but create community and gather partners to represent their brand. In order to achieve this, two clear and non-obtrusive buttons were used to filter “Partners” and “Creators” down their respective paths. So as to not distract from the main content on the page, consisting of a floating, rotating video of the app in action, we opted to cleanly layout the other content on the site in the footer of the site.
Strategy
Due to the groundbreaking nature of this social video and mobile TV app for content creators and their partners, we intended to create an isolated platform for the app to speak for itself. By using a space black background behind the phone animation of the app, the app animation captures all attention and instantly conveys the impact of FireworkTV’s new Reveal video© feature. A bright contrast supporting the animation serves subsequently to entice the attention of all customers and lead wandering eyes to the major clickthrough points, the Google Play store and App Store.
Final Delivery
Ultimately, FireworkTV has worked with a handful of impactful brands including Refinery29 and Complex Networks, among others. In March of 2019, the app had 1.8M installs on iOS alone, 55% of which were in the U.S. Firework’s parent company, Loop Now Technologies has raised “millions” from early backers like Snap investor Lightspeed, and IDG Capital, a major investor in Musical.ly. Already, the company has worked with names like Flo Rida, Dexter Darden, Jordyn Jones, and others.
